Snorkeling the Mermaid Piano
Watch Video 46 Here!
We anchor our sailboat at Rudder Cut Cay so that we can go snorkeling at the famous mermaid piano. It’s AWESOME! Lovely place! (I bet you’ve heard that before). The primary and ONLY attractions are “The Mermaid Piano OR Copperfield’s Piano”, and also an interesting water-side cave.
Now, the islands around Rudder Cut and Musha are private. You can’t go exploring at all on land. In fact, we’ve heard that other cruisers report that they have seen guard dogs roaming the islands, so it might be best to just stick to the water around here.
Some people call the piano “Copperfield’s Piano” because it was put there by David Copperfield… possibly the undesirable result of a magic trick gone wrong – perhaps even caused by an event as simple as a inadvertent flick of the wrist. The world will never really know, but I can only imagine how he intended for the instrument to appear in his living room, when it instead appeared 100ft above sea level just off of Rudder Cut Cay causing the 15,000 lb mass to come crashing down with a terrific splash, forever to be adorned and cherished by all manner of sea-people who believe it was placed there intentionally.
Wow, I got carried away on that one. I digress…
The piano itself is stainless steel, and extremely heavy. The mermaid was added at a later date, and she is often adorned with beads, sunglasses, and other paraphernalia from passing cruisers.
I hope you enjoy it as much as we did!
3.21.17 Today we got up and had breakfast, then we cleaned out the composting toilet. Yep, it’s that time again. Really it’s not so bad. It’s just dirt. Anyways, moving on….
After that, we left for Rudder Cut Cay to see the Mermaid Piano. I am SO excited about this stop. In fact it was number one on my list. Can you guess why? Because I’m a mermaid of course, I like to swim with my people.
Claudie and her family are joining us, they are coming from Georgetown.

It was a pretty short sail, and we decided to swim the piano today. After Claudie and her family got there we all got ready to go. The mermaid piano was amazing! I am so glad we got to go see it! I only wish I could have held my breath long enough to spend more time down there with her!
After we the swim we went over to dorenavent for dinner. We had a great time visiting with friends, we haven’t seen them since we were in Highborn Cay.
3.22.17 We’ve decided that we don’t need to go to Georgetown, so we’re going back to Black Point today. This morning, I enjoyed my coffee out in the cockpit. It was lovely. Molly did some school, today’s journal assignment was to write about her Grandfather Rick. My dad, who passed away in 2006. Then before we left, we wanted to go explore the little cave along the waters edge.
